Thank you for this great post, Jim! I've been through this same journey with my own music... especially after the pandemic shut down all my touring and I realized it was actually REALLY NICE to not have to be constantly wondering if I'm doing enough--because I couldn't do anything. When I realized the desire to do music was then starting to make a comeback in my heart, I had to decide how was I going to things differently, in a way that honored me way more than I had been doing. Now I am doing it for me. And I couldn't be happier. Thanks for the encouragement today! Marcus

Thank you, Jim for your awesome reply. I’m in tandem with wrote you wrote so much. Your suggestion at the end is something I’ve been really working hard at doing for the part year and a half. I’ve hired a marketing guy who has given me awesome framework for sharing more than just the music. The pinnacle this year has been a short documentary about my journey with music, as well as leaving behind high-control religion to live more authentically, allowing ME to be the why I do things. That was an amazing experience. I’ll keep my eyes out for more of your story. 👍🏼

That's awesome Marcus!

One question -

Are you extracting bite sized content from the mini doc?

There will be a world of gold in there which you could use to bring people to the longer form - by distributing it in short form.

I find Capcut very helpful with that...

Wrestling with getting my live show together here - head breaking trying to get my new looper to do what I want it to do haha!

Thanks for your awesome replies. Yes, I have pulled out shorter clips and need to keep at that. It really is valuable pre-made content. I’ll check out CapCut. These days, gratitude is the best Rx to help keep me balanced between doing and resting. And changing my focus away from “achieving” to “sharing” has been huge. It flows so much better. Grateful for you

Dear Marcus,

What great words " in a way that honored me way more than I had been doing" -- I love this idea, of honouring oneself rather than always pushing. I can relate too. I have been pushing sometimes too much this year - as if kinda "raging against the dieing of the light" haha! But I'm also arriving at a gentler place. I am not there yet, but feel in motion. I definitely feel free of that sense of "wanting too much" that can drive you when you're younger -- and feel I have retrieved it for me. With it though is the question of how, equally, to try to honour the music, and try to put it out in a way that really supports it. I've sometimes no done the promotion properly and its left me wondering why, if I'm going to work so hard at the creation, I can't work equally hard to get it to its audience. Those are some challenges ahead. I intend to "build in public" - and write about this journey in the newsletter next year. Thank you for supporting - and for your lovely reflection here. So dam cool that you've got to this great space. Keep on with it man - all I know is that in this life to arrive at twin sense of peace with creativity - while still being in its heartbeat - is a really special space. With however you put out those songs - if you choose to - why not write/share - about that in parallel too? Just a thought! Take care, Jim
