"The work of art is born of the artist’s experience. It is only through life’s wounds that creation can emerge, but the fear of exposure keeps many from taking the step."
- Rainer Maria Rilke
There is always a limbo between two states — when one thing has drawn to a conclusion, and another is yet to begin.
I’m going through this at the moment.
Musically, last year was specifically about writing and recording.
Now, it is time to release something.
And yet, the mind is still in its previous house — simultaneously called to adventure and yet unwilling to leave.
Here’s the thing:
To put something into the world, you have to risk something.
When writing, you’re taking a chance on yourself.
When putting something out, you take a chance on the world.
Of course there is resistance!
Rilke wrote:
“It is only through life’s wounds that creation can emerge, but the fear of exposure keeps many from taking the step.”
This fear wears two faces.
To write is to explore something vulnerable, a wound perhaps. And to put it into the world is to risk the wound being further wounded.
In our limbo we forget — that the act of moving that wound is in itself healing.
Wounds need air; not forever covered.
Remember — life is the great healer.
When you release something you release something of yourself too.
And that makes space for new air to enter into the vast chamber of your spirit.
If in limbo — don’t rush out — just keep treading lightly.
Have a beautiful week, everyone x
