Tariffing Penguins

Because someone has to stand up for our feathered, two-legged friends!

Dear friends,

Last week, a group of penguins were innocently going about their day when, out of the blue, they received a missive from the president of the United States.

Despite their valiant stewardship of their home, a remote cluster of volcanic islands near Antarctica, the penguins were abruptly informed they’d become targets of Donald Trump’s tariffs.

Shortly after, a songwriter in Berlin discovered this news. Tickled by its absurdity, he started sketching a song.

The opening line—“The penguin in the Tesla is looking round confused; he didn’t know that The Donald’s going to tax him too”—felt too visually juicy not to generate an image to accompany it.

The resulting illustration pulled the songwriter into an unexpected creative wormhole. He emerged 24 hours later, exhausted, slightly exhilarated, and having completed a quirky little project.
