Dear friends,
In this week's Podcast, I’m so glad to welcome a man who took on the music industry - and won.
This episode is a masterclass: guts, determination and how to build a one-person business.
I cannot tell you how much I learned speaking to The Dark Tenor & how much it inspired me for 2024.
In this episode:
1️⃣ Adopting big-brand strategies for an independent career
2️⃣ The continuing relevance of Facebook marketing
3️⃣ Harnessing AI
4️⃣ Building robust databases
5️⃣ Merging music industry insights with e-commerce tactics
6️⃣ Navigating the music industry as your own manager
Today, I have some thoughts on reaching a special milestone.
Love, Jim

I'm still so new to podcasting. But last night was a special one.
10th episode.
Every new thing comes to confront us, to challenge us, and does so to make us a better version of ourselves.
I have wondered why so few podcasts get past the third episode; 90% are said to have packed it in before.
There are two reasons.
First, it’s far more work than one would think. Do not let this perturb you, though. If you are dreaming of trying it, give it a spin. If you don't get to episode 3, there is no "failure" - you will still have learned something. It will be an important inflexion point leading you to something "more right".
Second, learning to Podcast means confronting an aspect of ourselves we assumed we would "just be able to do". I'll back myself to wing it with anyone in the pub on a Saturday night. But a Podcast is a performance, and your ideas are captured live. That is a threshold, a challenge and an opportunity.
The greatest gift it gives you is to deepen your relationship with your ideas and have them challenged by others.
It is related yet represents a distinct expression compared to writing.
In writing, you have the safety net of the ponder, the pause, and the next possibility.
In a Podcast, you are called to commit to where you are now.
That is exciting but also unsettling.
I am deeply grateful to all the guests I have been so lucky to meet.
The fates transpired that I started in a higher room than my own, and I've been blooded by the brilliance of such great souls as Jay Clouse, Karthik Puvvada Arvid Kahl and Aishwarya Ashok.
I'll never forget the way they’ve given me a shot, and I will pass on that spirit by providing other people with theirs.
Whatever dream you're working on, whether in its heart or yet to get started, back yourself.
Growth is beautiful, painful, uncomfortable and worth it.
You shed skin to become something new, and shrugging off the old shows you are in life.
I appreciate your support everyone.
Much love and keep on,
Jim
Just in Jamie! 🛬 📝 I think l may even be the first one to read this!😅 First, well done on making it to 10 podcasts, already 7 more than the average newcomer to the exercise! 👏👏 Secondly, the immediacy/performance element of it is so different to writing as l know from my experiences as a litigation lawyer-the comfort of writing submissions vs.The unpredictability of cross-examination. Yikes! 😳 Unpredictable and requiring very-concentrated listening in both situations but that is often where and when the fun begins and the magic happens! 🪄✨ Thirdly & finally, YES 🙌🏼, you gotta back yourself! Nothing ventured nothing gained! Absolutely!💯 Thanks for an inspiring start to my day! 🙏🤩
